Description
Doko Recyclers partnered with UNDP and Creative Institute Nepal to lead the Municipal Solid Waste Management and Green Recovery Program in Lumbini Sanskritik Municipality. The municipality’s Solid Waste Management SOP was developed, piloted decentralized waste segregation and composting in a model ward, and trained 30 municipal workers on safe waste handling. The project also included awareness campaigns, multi-stakeholder workshops, and green livelihood training for 100 farmers. Ongoing community cleanups and monitoring efforts helped ensure the program’s sustainability and local ownership.

Doko Recyclers served as the technical partner for the Municipal Solid Waste Management and Green Recovery Program in Lumbini Sanskritik Municipality, led by Creative Institute Nepal with UNDP support. The project aimed to establish a decentralized, community-based waste system in a rapidly growing area.
Doko developed the municipality’s Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for waste management, covering segregation, composting, and safe disposal, officially adopted in December 2023. A Model Ward in Mahilawar piloted source segregation and composting, reaching 250 households, while similar practices were introduced in Muglaha, schools, and Madrasas.
The program also trained 30 municipal waste workers in health, safety, and data tracking, and organized a multi-stakeholder workshop to strengthen partnerships. Additionally, Doko trained 100 rural farmers in organic farming and vermicomposting, supporting green livelihoods. Awareness campaigns and regular clean-up drives further promoted community participation and long-term sustainability.
