700+
Sustainable waste management training to over 700 households.
With support from Triangle Génération Humanitaire (TGH), Doko Recyclers and ARSOW Nepal implemented a sustainable waste management system for 700 households in Gunsakot, Gorkha. The project aimed to reduce environmental and health risks by promoting source-level segregation of waste into wet (organic) and dry (recyclable, non-recyclable, and hazardous) categories.
To start, Doko Recyclers conducted detailed assessments and mapping to understand local waste generation and identify key intervention points. Based on these insights, households were trained on proper waste separation techniques. A Community-level Materials Recovery Facility (CMRF) was constructed to process dry waste, with saleable materials directed to scrap dealers or regional markets.
To ensure long-term success, the project also focused on building local ownership. A Waste Management Committee (WMC) was formed with representatives from all nine toles (neighborhoods) of Gunsakot. This committee received training to handle both the day-to-day operations and community engagement, ensuring that the system remains effective and community-driven over time
