The Paper Re-Genesis Project, under the Green Job Creation through Recycling and Upcycling (GCRU) initiative, addresses the growing problem of paper waste in Pokhara Metropolitan City (PMC), Nepal. Paper waste contributes significantly to environmental degradation when improperly disposed of in landfills or open spaces.

To counter this, the project focuses on diverting paper waste from the waste stream by transforming it into sustainable, upcycled products. A total of 8 individuals received 9 days of hands-on training in paper recycling, upcycling techniques, and production of high-quality, marketable goods. Out of these, 4 individuals—especially women—have been employed to create and market these products locally.

The project also supports the development of organized paper waste collection systems from households, community hubs, and industries. Beyond just waste diversion, it promotes a circular economy by integrating closed-loop production practices and community-based recycling models. By empowering communities with the skills and opportunities to turn waste into income, the Paper Re-Genesis Project contributes to both environmental sustainability and local economic development, paving the way for a cleaner and more inclusive Pokhara.
