In April 2023, Doko Recyclers, with support from WWF Nepal and in collaboration with Shey-Phoksundo National Park (SPNP), organized a two-day training and awareness workshop in Dunai, Thulobheri Municipality, Dolpa. The initiative addressed the rising problem of unmanaged waste in this remote and ecologically fragile area, especially during high-traffic times like the Yartsa Gunbu harvest season.
The first day focused on educating over 40 students and teachers from seven local schools. Sessions covered the 7R principles (Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose, Recycle, Rot, Rethink), waste separation, composting, and creative reuse. Activities also included waste audits, riverbank cleanups, and practical demos on how Community Recycling Centers (CRCs) work.
The second day engaged 45 community members in discussions and group work to identify local waste issues and suggest practical, community-based solutions. Emphasis was placed on the value of recycling and upcycling, with a focus on how waste management can support eco-friendly income opportunities in the region.
